“Veterans Face A Rise Of Mental Health Issues, Employers Can Help,” a new free report describes the rising problem of returning soldiers' battle with mental illness, such as post traumatic stress disorder, and how employee assistance programs and employers can help ease the transition back into civilian life. A reported 1 in 5 returning soldiers are diagnosed with PTSD or major depression and the cost to an employer could mean a total of $10,000 over a two-year-per-person basis, reported a study from the RAND Corporation. Employers should adjust to the needs of veterans by becoming sensitive in their behavior and by promoting health services, said Dr. Stephen Sideroff of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, during an interview with Employee Assistance Program Management Letter.
